Is this a relevant source of income for people? Or just a drop in the bucket? Does it turn readers off or not? How does it work?

You have to have a lot of traffic to be able to make decent money from ads. I never tried WordPress’s ad program, but I ran ads through Google AdSense for about six months, and then decided to stop because it was earning so little. Now I’ve got Amazon affiliate links and banners on my site, and I make a bit if people click through and buy something. I don’t make a huge amount, but I like that I have full control over it.

As to this post, it could be a good source of income if you have huge traffic.

It turns a lot of readers off. Most people are not good enough writers or interesting enough to get away with it.
